IRS Issues 2013 HSA Limits

On April 27, 2012, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) issued inflation-adjusted limits for contributions to a health savings account (HSA) for calendar year 2013 (Revenue Procedure 2012-26). For calendar year 2013, the limit on contributions for an individual with self-only coverage under a high-deductible health plan is $3,250 ($6,450 for family coverage). A high-deductible health plan for calendar year 2013 is defined as a health plan with an annual deductible that is not less than $1,250 for self-only coverage ($2,500 for family coverage). The limit on annual out-of-pocket expenses is $6,250 for self-only coverage ($12,500 for family coverage). The limit on catch-up contributions for individuals age 55 or older is $1,000.

Access to data on health care providers improves with PPACA

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 lays the groundwork for improving consumer access to information on provider quality and effectiveness. PPACA mandates a national strategy to improve the delivery of health care services, including tying pay to performance for both hospitals and physicians.

Connecticut - First State to Mandate Paid Sick Leave

Connecticut’s Governor Dan Malloy signed legislation that makes Connecticut the first state to mandate paid sick leave for certain hourly service workers. The law, which becomes effective on January 1, 2012, applies to employers of 50 or more persons within the State of Connecticut.

Simonton employees lose over 1,400 lbs

The challenge included 151 teams of two employees per team from Simonton facilities in West Virginia, Illinois, Oklahoma and California. The winning team, Tons of Fun, lost a combined 49 pounds by cutting out cheeseburgers, embracing exercise and eating healthy foods.

Kalamazoo County wellness success holds premium increases to zero

Currently, 82% of eligible employees participate, exceeding the best practice standard of 75%. One of the first questions new employees ask during orientation is how soon can they join the program.Employees continue to make dramatic lifestyle improvements. The decline in sedentary behavior is significant. The latest survey showed 91% of participants were active.
